Delegation from TurkeyFebruary 25-The Vice President of the Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists ofTurkey (TUSKON), Mr. Ahmet Ciğer, led a delegation to Houston to promote awareness ofTurkey's business potential, highlight Houston-Turkey trade ties and provide information on theTurkey-World Trade Bridge business conference, which will be held in June 2010. Mr. Ciğer met with City of Houston Controller Ron Green, Council Member James Rodriguez and ChiefDevelopment Officer Andy Icken who have all recognized the immense potential of doing business with Turkey.

A delegation from the Turkish Parliament met with our members Many businessmen showed great interest in the reception.
A dinner was held by a Turquaise house in Houston. Many high-level officials from Turkey participated in the dinner, including Mustafa Atas, an İstanbul deputy from the Justice and Development Party (AK Party); AK Party Malatya deputy Mehmet Şahin; Vahit Kirişçi, chairman of the parliamentary Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs Commission and AK Party Adana deputy.

November 23, 2009Houston Consul General of Turkey Honorable Akil Oktem gave a reception to the members of TTACC (Texas Turkish American Chamber of Commerce) at the consulate. The president of TTACC Ertugrul Akkus said that even though the trade volume between US and Turkey has been increased recently, we believe that we are far more behind the potential of that. Honorable Akil Okem turkish businessmen and business women had talks about the needs of the turkish business community in Houston. They also discussed about the needs for the Turkish Airlines's direct flights from Istanbul to Houston. During the reception, they emphisized the importance of Houston as an important energy city to invest in energy for the business people of Turkey. The trade volume between Turkey and only Houston is about $1.9 million. For the state of Texas, the members of TTACC's trade volume is about $2 million with Turkey.

On September 14, 2009, TTACC organized 4th traditional annual dinner with Texas senator Rodney Ellis as the key note speaker at Sugarland Marriott Hotel. Besides Consul General of Turkey Akil Oktem and Deputy Consul Ali Findik, the Turkish and American businessmen and women, local business media, and organizations participated at the dinner. Senator Ellis presented their awards to the most successful entrepreneur and the company of 2009. TTACC president Ertugrul Akkus also presented the “Award of Chamber” to Senator Ellis. Guests enjoyed not only the meaning of breaking fast together, but also learned about the possible new trade opportunities in Turkey.

TTACC organized its second panel on global economical crisis in Austin. Dr. Engin Kalkan, Dr. Osman Nal and Dr. Can Dogan were the speakers of the panel discussion. There were not only businessmen from the business communities of Austin but also professors and students from the University of Texas at Austin among the attendees. As the board member of TTACC, Murat Dagli welcomed the guests and gave a presentation about TTACC.

Dr. Dogan talked about the economic power of the U.S. Economy and why it was inevitable for such a crisis to spread to other countries. He also talked about why markets did not respond as expected and some of the controversies about the programs.
